Investing in Tomorrow’s Gardeners

LCMGA proudly invests in the future of horticulture through two scholarship programs—supporting Purdue University students pursuing horticultural careers and helping Lake County residents become Purdue Extension Master Gardeners.

🎓 Purdue University Scholarship

🌿 Apply Through Purdue

The Lake County Master Gardeners Association proudly supports undergraduate students pursuing degrees in horticulture and related fields through our annual Purdue University Scholarship.

The scholarship is available to full-time students in Purdue University’s College of Agriculture, with preference given to students studying in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture.

Students apply through Purdue’s Agriculture Scholarship Application, where they are considered for departmental and external scholarship opportunities, including the LCMGA scholarship.

By investing in future horticultural professionals, LCMGA is helping cultivate the next generation of leaders, educators, and advocates for the green industry.

🍃 Purdue Recognizes LCMGA’s Impact

In July 2026, the Purdue University Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture recognized the Lake County Master Gardeners Association for its continued support of horticulture students through scholarship funding.

We are honored to partner with Purdue in investing in the next generation of horticultural professionals and helping students pursue their educational goals.

🎓 Meet Our Scholarship Recipient

Julia Betts of Crown Point, Indiana, was selected as the 2025–2026 recipient of the Lake County Master Gardeners Association Purdue University Scholarship. She is pursuing a degree in Horticulture with a concentration in Production and Marketing through Purdue University’s College of Agriculture.

“I am deeply honored and incredibly grateful to have been selected as a recipient of this scholarship! Growing up, I always dreamed of attending college, and Purdue University has helped me achieve this dream. Your generosity is enabling me to make the most of this incredible opportunity.”

Julia has gained valuable hands-on experience in the horticulture industry while balancing a rigorous academic schedule. Her passion for plants, dedication to learning, and commitment to the future of horticulture exemplify the students LCMGA is proud to support through its scholarship program.

We congratulate Julia on her accomplishments and wish her continued success as she pursues a career in horticulture.

🌿 Lake County Master Gardener Course Scholarships

In 2026, LCMGA launched its first Master Gardener Course Scholarships to help Lake County residents participate in the Purdue Extension Master Gardener training program. Scholarships are awarded through a competitive application process based on criteria established by the association.

The program is funded through the generosity of our members and fundraising efforts. In its first year, LCMGA awarded scholarships to several new Master Gardener students, and we look forward to continuing this program for future classes.
